Stephenie Meyer's is a Mormon married mother of three and with the success of the "Twilight" series has become quite famous. Meyer's books have topped best-seller list around the world, this week a much lesser known writer Jordan Scott's who's novels have been sold mostly through her official Web site and other online distributors.
Filed a cease and desist order against Meyers publishers the Hachette Book Group.
Jordan Scott claims that some of the Meyers book"Breaking Dawn," has passages that were lifted from her book, The Nocturne.
Both Books have a wedding, sex on the beach scenes, and discussions on human and vampire life.
Both sides have issued statements.
Scott's attorney said in a statement:
"Jordan Scott regularly posted passages and chapters to her website. In reviewing Breaking Dawn, we found a number of instances where the text, characters and storyline contain substantial similarities to Scott's original work."
The Hachette Book Group released this statement:
"The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested. The world of The Twilight Saga and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously."
A wedding and a beach love scene how many times has that been done in books and movies seem like the merits of the lawJordan Scott are pretty weak. There is no monetary request in the lawsuit but I'm sure Jordan Scoot is hoping for a big payday on the back-end from all the attention she is getting, more book sales and possibly a movie deal too.
It looks like Jordan Scott just wants some attention on her books, because there not well know. We will just have to wait and see if it turns out to be anything more than just her 15 minutes of fame. It's hard to tell how these things will turn out I thought the octuplet mom would get her 15 minutes of fame and and fade off into the sunset, but instead she is going to have her own reality show and become a millionaire.
